Garner State Park is so popular among Texans that someone wrote a popular rocksong about it in the sixties. Generation after generation return so often that the park is a family tradition among many. Your family can admire the scenic Hill Country; splash in the sparkling cool Frio River; canoe; hike; mountain bike; camp; picnic; relax in the shade of cypress, elm, oak, or pecan trees; or stay in rustic cabins built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The park also has an eighteen-hole miniture golf course and a store.
We enjoyed the shady camping on the river's edge and a cool dip in the river after we got the tent set up. Its a pretty place with tall trees shading a slow moving river perfect for wading and tubing. The little kids enjoyed catching small fish in their buckets with magnifying glass lids.
