This place was amazing. The real surprise was how much my husband and kids enjoyed the gardens and sculptures. The children's garden had a lot for the kids to explore! The sculptures were pretty amazing to see, art on a grand scale. A great time was had by all. more. I highly recommend going to see the Butterflies in the spring.
We had the opportunity to visit the Frederik Meijer Gardens one time, and the children had an absolute BLAST in the children's area! There is a huge play area, as well as a water area where they got MUCH more wet than I had planned - ha! The only part of the playground that stressed me out was the wooden play house that was so huge I couldn't always SEE the kids, and they're young enough that I really always like to have an eye on them!
This is another great place to take the kids if you live in or near Grand Rapids. The Frederick Meijer Gardens has some great sculptures and the kids love to see the giant horse. The butterfly exhibit has to be one of my favorite things they have here. Great Place!
Gorgeous plant-life both indoors and out. In the spring you can visit the HUGE butterfly house. If you are there in the summer be sure to check out the giant Michigan map complete with great lakes filled with water and toy boats for kids to play with. Well worth the long walk out there is the farm exhibit. You're kiddos will get a good walk here for sure. Be sure to bring the stroller or carrier for smaller children.
Meijer Gardens is awesome! It's a great place to go any time of the year because they have activities to do both inside and outside. My daughter's favorite time to visit is in the spring when they have the butterfly exhibit. My daughter loves looking at all of the different type of butterflies. If she's lucky, one will land on her and make her day.
We go to the gardens at least once a year. In the winder they have the most amazing butterfly exhibit! Its like entering a rainforest in the middle of a Michigan winter! We try to time it so that we can still see the butterflies, but its also nice enough to go outside and enjoy the childrens gardens. there is a lot to do for all ages there.
If you are in the area and want to get out and do something fun and free MSU children's gardens are a great place to go. Beautiful and child friendly. They have a piano that you step on the keys to play. Its just a nice little spot to take the kids. Everyone is bound to have fun in the maze! Right across the street is the VET and they have some wild animals out in cages too which is fun to go look at. I say if your in the area you might as well go here for a little free fun!
We love this place so much, there is something here for everyone - especially kids of all ages. There is a childrens garden with a summer play area with water in the shape of our great lakes. There is a boardwalk that passes along a great water fowl and other animals viewing area. Indoors they have a large botanical garden with an arrid garden(desert), a garden with all sorts of venus flytraps, and a wonderful tropical garden with waterfalls and many beautiful trees, flowers and some birds. Every season there is something new and inviting. This is a 2+ hr drive for us but we visit about every 6-8 weeks. There is a wonderful sculpture park and great special displays, like Chihuly now through Sept. 2010
