My cousin and his wife had their rehearsal dinner outside the Trading Post and it was beautiful. The post was open so my brothers and I, about 14 years and younger in ages, scoped out the souvenirs. It was the typical type of post including foods popular to the area, rocks for your rock collection, and stuffed animals and t-shirts. I would love to go back as an adult and stop at the post but also check out the campgrounds too. I recommend this place as a stop on your way to the garden of the gods but this only a part of an all day adventure to Colorado Springs, CO.
This place is filled to the brim with nicknacks and toys and craft projects and books. I enjoyed finding maps and books on Colorado with pictures for my kids to enjoy, but I wish we would have known about the visitor center. There is a penny press here... which was a good thing for our collection.
Unless they've redone the trading post in the last few years, when we stopped by, it was a very brief visit. Filled with nick-nacks and information about Garden of the Gods was helpful, but definitely not a must see, especially with younger kids. I would recommend stopping at the visitor's center instead.
We enjoy having a snack or a pop on the outdoor shady terrace after a day of hiking. There are clean restrooms, a cute giftshop, and even a trough outside where children can sift through a purchased bag of silt and rocks for their very own gems. It isn't a place we go every visit, but the kids do enjoy it!
