Unique playground hand built by the loving parents of Pacifica. None of the typical factory ready playground equipment you find in most playgrounds these days. Nice group BBQ area for 50+ people and a large playing field and clean bathrooms. Picnic areas can be booked by calling the Pacifica Parks and Recreation. 650-738-7381
it's got a great large wooden playground and plenty of room to run!

Gated: yes--both sides of the play structure are gated and together have only one entrance
Groundcover: mulch
Swings: yes
Water/Sand features: some sand, though mostly it's mixed in with the mulch
Paved surfaces: not much
Open space: yes-large grassy field nearby
Shade: the playground has a little shade, but the wood structure provides a lot of protection from the sun for the kids
Eating/Drinking: picnic tables are available near playground and throughout the park. Also a great picnic blanket park. Not sure if there is a water fountain nearby.
Other: kindof a tough one to find, but worth the hunt---just think of it as adding to the safari adventure!

We used to live in Daly City until my son was four. We were introduced to Frontierland Playground by a friend and we would drive for half an hour to go here bypassing all the other playgrounds in our neighborhood.
What I like: the entrance is a long path through a gate and fences that take you into the heart of the playground giving you time to catch your child if they're the type to "make a run for it." The very young and the school aged structures are on different sides of the long path into the playground. This means there are age appropriate play areas for pre-K vs. school aged and it means that the school aged kids that play in a more quick-moving way won't be tripping over your 3 year old whose slowly spooning sand into a sieve. There's a swing on the younger side for a disabled child. We only used the older side once and that side is more interesting for older kids.
There's also one reserve-able birthday spot right next to the playground and several free, first come first serve birthday spots around the perimeter of the grassy area. We had our son's 2nd birthday party in one of the free spots. They're a little far from the playground but a couple of the parents walked the kids over and it was fine.
We used to go here when it was pretty new and it was a very fun park. There is a large play structure that is fun for older kids, nice sand boxes for younger kids, nice swings, and a large picnic area right there. It is a bit hard to get to if you don' t live in the neighborhood, but worth the trip.
Frontierland playground is not like any other playground out there. That's because it was designed by the families of Pacifica and hand built by the community. It is a fairly large playground, but all sides are enclosed so that it's pretty easy to watch you little ones. The playground is generally castle themed, but there is also a small climbing wall and musical areas made out of metal pipes. There is also a well/dungeon you can climb down that is made out of tires. There are lots of slides, swings, and a tot area with a train depot for pretend play. When it gets hot, there is a water mist area that little ones enjoy walking through. Whenever we go to Frontierland, I think about the creative use of various materials that have been applied to create this fantastic playground. The only downside is that bathrooms while available are a little far away. It is also deep in the valley and far from Hwy 1. The upside of this location is that it's almost always sunny here. Lots of picnic tables and large a grassy area is adjacent to the playground and is perfect for a picnic, kicking a ball or flying a kite.
This playground was built by the locals - the neighborhoods got together, raised the money for supplies, and built this amazingly fun playground. Kids can spend hours here.
Plus, there are picnic areas and a nice lawn for non-playground activities.
One word of caution -the restrooms are both remote and some distance from the playground. Plan on going together with your child, even older ones.
Frontierland playground is not just any other playground. It is a playground that speaks to the beautiful things parents can do for their children and community. Hand built by the loving parents of Pacifica, this playground has such unique features dreamed up by parents who know what would delight children. From the castle themed climbing structure to the well made of tires, wooden train depot and beehive for little tots to sit in. There are delightful surprises at each turn.
This playground is tucked in the back of the valley where sunshine abounds. This is a great place to relax. It never feels crowded and everyone is very friendly. Picnic tables and BBQ pits line the big grassy playing field. A large group BBQ/picnic area has big pits that could cook up a feast for well over 50 people.
