I love Jamestown! It is a historical part of the town with the real Frontier city. It is fun for kids to go around the Frontier city and peek inside old style houses. There is also a museum of natural history. Whenever we traveled from Grand Forks to Bismarck, we always stop by to check on White cloud, a female albino buffalo and take another picture with a huge statue.
If you're driving through North Dakota, you have to stop and take a picture by the big buffalo. You just have to. People have been doing it for 50 years now.
On your way to the buffalo, you can enjoy the frontier village, which is made up of a large number of restored pioneer buildings. Pony rides and stagecoach rides are available for a fee, but the village is free.
Try your luck at spotting the herd of buffalo, including three albinos, in the pasture, or stop in at the National Buffalo Museum, the only part of the site that has an admission charge.
We had expected to stay for an hour or so but found ourselves still there three hours later.
