Visitors can tour Fort Screven as part of the Tybee Island Lighthouse and Museum admission.
We were happy to learn that our admission fee to the Tybee Island Lighthouse also included the Tybee Museum at Fort Screven which is just across the street from the lighthouse. We were able to explore the fort interior and also stand on top of the fort to overlook Tybee's North Beach. What a view! There are two coin operated telescopes to gaze out over the Atlantic Ocean. Our kiddo especially enjoyed spotting dolphins and birds!
We enjoyed watching the brief film in the fort and learned quite a bit about Tybee's unique military history. There are lots of informative historical displays as well as an overview of the entertainment options available on Tybee throughout the decades. This is one truly American treasure of a town!
Very interesting. Had lots of exhibits that you can view. Wasn't very crowded when we went but you can walk out to view Tybee Island from the top as well. In 1947, the fort was sold to Tybee Island. Beautiful views of the beach. Conveinently located across from the Tybee Lighthouse, separated by a parking lot.
