You will find Fort Kid just across from the Knoxville Museum of Art. Rides, swings, and slides covering 12,000 square feet here it is a very popular choice for schools, and other similar groups.
I believe the City of Knoxville recently decided to re-do this playground. It's current condition is very run down, the wood is older and needs to be replaced. If this playground is restored, it is definitely a place that I would take my kids. There is another playground nearby at the World's Fair Park that is an excellent alternative until Fort Kid is refurbished.
Fort Kid has become an icon to several generations of Knoxville families. Parents who played there as children enjoy bringing their children there for the same experiences. The structure is all wood and has many nooks and crannies for kids to explore. Parking is close by so parents can access the playground pushing strollers and lugging gear for an afternoon of fun. Expand your trip with a visit to the fountains at the World's Fair park or a trip to the Knoxville Museum of Art. Restrooms are on site for easy access.
While this is an older structure and was previously in danger of being torn down, an activist group rose up to work on the park and ensure it would be around for years to come.
