While my family and myself have enjoyed trips to Fort Fisher, there really is nothing to see but the mounds of the fort. Which can be disappointing to little ones. Its a nice place to visit, a nice place to walk around and look at however its not some place that we go out of our way to see. There are some photo opportunities along the way while you are there, so deff a place that you should have the camera on hand for. dont however plan on spending a whole day there though, there really isnt much to see.
The state park is awesome for day trippers! They have a shore area, bathrooms, concession stand, and of course the beautiful beach! This was the first time my youngest had been to the beach and he really enjoyed it there. He had a blast playing on the beach and feeding the seagulls, plenty of room for the kids to run around and enjoy themselves!
This is a nice place to visit however be very careful swimming as the currents are very strong and there are many rocks in the water, thanks to the Civil War. Previously, you could drive all over the area with a four wheel drive and see the coolest wildlife but not anymore. It is still very pretty, remote and a nice place to stop for a picnic.
love to walk around. The boys love fishing here and we love to just take in all the beauty. We went here the 4th of july this year to watch the firesorks across the water way in Southport. Awsome idea if you have little ones that are scared of the noise! Beautiful sunsets!
We had a picnic at Fort Fisher Park and it was just beautiful! There were grills and picnic tables, and plenty of trees and sand for my 2 year old to explore. There are no swings or play places, but it was a gorgeous place for a picnic and exploration. The indoor bathrooms were wonderful, and I recommend riding the ferry! We're going back!
This is a beautiful beach with life guards in season. There are bathrooms and a concession stand. There is an interpretive area with displays of seashells, mounted seabirds and shells and skeletons of sea turtle. They have classes and walks during the summer as well. One summer there was a sea turtle nest with barricades near the beach.
