"Clean beach, smaller crowds"

I grew up in South Carolina, and have been to Folly Beach many times as a child and then as an adult. For some crazy reason, most people not from SC always go to Myrtle Beach, but it's super commercialized and always so crowded. I like Folly Beach, the facilities are really nice and to get into the park there is only a couple-dollar fee. The showers are clean and are super convenient if you are just going for the day. The only reason I gave the beach 4 stars is because the waves and undertow are a little more rough, that's why Folly attracts the surfers, but it's a little scary for smaller kids, though my son isn't quite old enough to really get into the deep water yet so it's been fine for us.

"Very nice park"

Folly Beach has 2 county parks. One is at the end of West Ashley Avenue and for a nominal entrance fee provides covered patio, sundries, showers, parking and bathrooms. The other is at 101 East Arctic. Here you will find the famous Pier that you see into the Atlantic. You can fish here, if you have a license. In the summer months, they offer dancing under the stars. It also provides easy access to the beach and the new Tides Hotel.

"best kept secret in SC"

This beach is by far the best in SC.  Born and raised in SC, I know my beaches.  I love Folly because its completely free.  Just drive up to the park and have fun.  You can bring a cooler and hang out for the day.  Restrooms are provided free of charge for your use and showers are also available.  Lots of water, sun, and sand.  Crowds are of course in the package, but its not commercialized like Myrtle.  Just plain fun.
