The Focus on the Family's Visitor Center has a kids' play area with a three-story slide, Whit's End Soda Shoppe, birthday party room, G. Harvey Art Gallery and Solid Grounds coffee bar. Additional expansions include the Discovery Emporium, complete with a puppet stage, reading area, KYDS' Radio Studio, two birthday party rooms (J&J Antiques and the Odyssey Fire Station), an area for toddlers (Camp What-A-Nut), the Foley Museum and the Narnia Adventure Room.
My husband and I went to the Focus on the Family campus a few years ago before we had kiddos. The tour of Focus is very interesting and I would recommend it for anyone, even if you are not familiar with the ministry.
The kids area is great! We are both Adventures in Odyssey fans and WE thought it was cool to see things like Wit's End where we could order ice cream at the counter. And because we liked it so much we figured kids would too. If your kids like AIO then they would get a kick out of this place. The only down side was that it smelled a bit like dirty diapers...hehe.
If you have no qualms about the politics of Focus on the Family, then be sure to visit the Focus on the Family Welcome center. It is a large, free, indoor play area for kids of all ages. The play area is kept quite clean and updated--you will not find broken equipment at all here. For toddlers there is a separate enclosed, soft climbing structure room. For kids over 48", there is a fantastic three-story enclosed spiral slide. Add to that a movie cave, an airplane body that kids can climb through, a puppet stage and climbing area, and you have a great half-day's entertainment. There is also a small soda shop with lunch specials (pizza, hot dogs, ice cream, etc.) and of course the Focus on the Family bookstore upstairs. Beware, on school closure days, this place will be packed!
I adore this place! We're always looking for FREE kid-friendly activities, especially on those cold days. And my kids are getting a little older now so the mall play area doesn't exactly hold the joy it used to. We really love Focus on the Family. It's a nice environment and the kids love to climb and slide. So great! Go check it out!
Who couldn't love this place! It's completely free which in itself is amazing. It's totally fun and interactive for the kids and interesting for the parents. I love this place. If I lived in Colorado Springs I would be visiting here all the time. If you have the chance, GO!
We haven't done any tours here, but our kids love to visit their downstairs kids' play area. There is a giant slide (which has sometimes been closed when we visit due to possible thunderstorms) that they love. And a great inside playground and soda shop based on the Adventures In Odyssey stories. There's also a huge bookstore upstairs which has a good selection. A fun and easy stop if driving through the Springs.
I just took my kids to Focus on the Family for the first time today, and it was amazing! Once you enter the welcome center, you have to go downstairs for the kids area. They have Whit's End which is home to a climbing play structure and a large airplane for the kids to play in. They also have a dress up room, a music room, a toddler play room, and of course the 3 story slide! The also have a soda fountain style diner that serves pizza, hot dogs, pb&j, apples, veggie sticks, ice cream, etc. And the best thing of all is everything is free (except for the food of course, but that is very reasonably priced)!
What do you get with one big slide, two play areas, a free recording studio, and much much more? Whit's End in the Focus on the Family welcome center! There is a cafe with inexpensive and kid-friendly food and of course, ice cream in the soda shop! Also, free hosting to your child's birthday party! Overall, a great place to hang out with the kids, especially in inclement weather!
