The kids and I had a fabulous hike at Flandreau last fall. It was beautiful. The water was out of the sand-bottomed pool, so we played in the sand and ran up and down the sides. We packed a lunch and hit the trail. Lots of natural environment. Fallen trees to walk, nice grass trails, some trail is along the river. We (I) did get a little lost with the forks in the road and no map. We made it, but at one point I did end up carrying both 1 year old and 3 year old. A true test of my motherly abilities!
Every Sunday evening found our family enjoying a picnic and a swim at this state park. There is a sand bottomed clorinated pond. We also liked to hike some of the trails and watch for deer. There are bathrooms, showers and a concession stand in a beautiful stone building built by the WPA. In the winter it is a great spot for crosscountry skiing.
