First Encounter Beach is named for the site where the members of the Mayflower company and the Nauset tribe first encountered each other. The Pilgrims determined that the soil was too sandy to support farming. Look for the bronze plaque erected to commemorate the event. Restrooms and calm waters add to your family’s comfort and safety (particularly the bay side of the beach). This is the largest Eastham Bay beach, and it’s managed by the town.
