This brand new facility, located just minutes from all of the major theme parks in the heart of Central Florida, is an adrenaline lovers dream come true! Walking up to the glass-front building, you begin to get an idea of just how cool this place really is. We checked in at the well-stocked gift shop, visited the locker rooms to change into our bathing suits and then walked up the ramp to enter the glassed-in indoor wave machine area. We watched as a few other guests rode the waves on their boards before taking our turns on the surf. They were really good! Brad, the resident wakeboard pro, gave us very helpful beginners tips and got us ready to ride. We had the option of riding on our bellies or standing. We opted for the easier belly riding and were given boards appropriate for that type of riding. Before we knew it, we were actually surfing the waves and it felt like we were riding real waves! The water is just the right temperature and the waves rush all around us as we glided effortlessly on the surface. The water is only a few inches deep and the blue, slick surface underneath seems well padded. We learned to lean to steer our boards left or right and even got up into a kneeling position. What a total thrill! We all wiped out a few times, even the pros, but the waves carried us up to the top where we easily stood up...ready to go again.
On the other side of the glassed-in indoor wave room, there's a large, comfortable waiting/viewing area with high top tables, big screen televisions showing a variety of sports channels as well as live camera images of the indoor wave machine. Our preschooler really enjoyed watching us from the comfort of the viewing area especially when we wiped out. She had no interest in surfing alongside us. However, there were lots of other kiddos willing to ride the waves. We could easily see her enthusiasm through the glass as we rode the waves.
Off to the side, there's a very nice lounge area with vending machines, more televisions, WiFi access and comfy couches. The locker rooms are very clean and have showers. Remember to bring your own towels or buy a souvenir towel in the gift shop. By the way, you girls may want to leave your bikini at home and wear your one-piece. The force of the water may be too strong for loose suits.
Before we visited Fantasy Surf, we watched an online safety demonstration video on their website. After just a few minutes instruction, we were easily able to catch a wave and learned the basics of wakeboarding. This place has to be seen to be appreciated! With no beach in site, not even a lake, this amazing, new attraction gives visitors the chance to catch a wave no matter what the weather is like outside. We are totally hooked!
If you've always wanted to learn how to wakeboard or surf, Fantasy Surf is the best place to start.
