"Awesome Special Events for Families"

The Essex Steam Train offers several family events throughout the year.  A Day Out With Thomas comes at least once per year, and the kids get up close with Thomas the Tank.  They also get a just-long-enough ride on the train with Thomas himself powering it.  The Christmas events are by far the best.  You can take the "Santa Special," which is the less costly of the options, and enjoy a ride on the train with a visit from Santa along the way.  The "North Pole Express" option is more expensive but includes a longer ride with entertainment on the way to the North Pole.  Each train car has an elf who performs a musical version of the "Night Before Christmas."  They also play games and everyone enjoys cookies and hot chocolate while waiting for Santa to make his rounds.  Get on the mailing list and buy tickets in August (I know!) because it sells out quickly.
