Birthdays are WILD at Elmwood Park Zoo!
An Elmwood Park Zoo birthday party is an experience your guests will not forget! Party packages include 22 guests (Includes adults and children). Parties include Zoo admission for all your guests, a mini tour of the Zoo for birthday parties only, feed for the barn animals, a 1/2 sheet birthday cake, T-shirt for all children attending the party and either pony rides (April - August) or piñata (September - March).
Great little zoo to visit. We have a membership that we were able to get at 50%off! Which is very nice for us because we live close and can visit more then once. The walk up cost is
ADULT (Ages 13-64) - $9.00
CHILD (Ages 2-12) - $6.00
SENIOR (Ages 65+) - $6.00
BABY (Under 2 year) - FREE
You don't need to pay for parking! Thats always nice. A side note, if you have a stroller I have found it easier to park on the lower parking lot. It's a much easier to walk into and out of the park with the stroller.
I have only given it 4 stars as of right now because we have visited in the winter months and they are working on some of the exhibits. So some of the animals are not out right now.
It is not a big zoo but there are still a lot of animals to see in the winter. They have bison, bobcat, mountain lion, alpaca, sheep, otter, fox, turtles, and an alligator just to name a few. There is a petting barn area (we haven't been able to experience that yet) which is opened daily April through November. And pony rides (available april through september) with an additional cost.
On our first visit to the zoo we were there in the winter and basically had the whole zoo to ourselves! So we started off visiting the animals which took about an hour and a half. Then we headed to the gated(other then the entrance) playground that's in the center of the park and let the kids run any extra energy off! It's a really nice playground with swings, a sandbox type area, a smaller gym to climb on for little ones and a larger one for bigger kids. After they ran of their energy, we sat down for lunch. You can bring your own packed lunch which saves money! They have picnic tables all around the zoo. We decided to sit at tables right next to the playground area which were really nice. And there was also a restroom close in sight just in case we had to get there fast with one of the potty training toddlers.
I am really excited to visit the zoo again when more of the exhibits are open. We always enjoy our times there so far! I look forward to updating this post once we get into some warmer months!
Elmwood is a great little zoo for pre-schoolers on down. We are members on the zoo and are there at least once a week in the summer. They are always offering great activities to do. We highly recommend this zoo!! The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable about all the animals.
We love the Elmwood Park Zoo so much, that this year we bought an annual family membership. The membership gets us unlimited admission for an entire calendar year plus access to special member's only events.
Even if you aren't a zoo member, EPZ will NOT break the bank. Kids under 2 are free, adults are around $12 and kids are even less. Check out the Entertainment Book for a B1G1 Free coupon as well.
The Elmwood Park Zoo is not big and sprawling like the Philadelphia Zoo. It is hilly, shady and on the small side- definitely easy to see everything in half a day or less.
We love visiting our favorite animals each time we go- these include the monkeys, the prairie dogs and of course the petting barn where you can pet goats and sheep. You can even purchase some food to feed them if you'd like.
We usually pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic either before or after seeing the animals (depending on what time we arrive).
Another favorite- a nice, big playground! Plenty of equipment and it is well maintained and in great condition.
The zoo is clean and we have always found the employees to be very helpful and knowledgeable.
There is a cafe if you'd like to purchase lunch, dinner or a snack. And of course, there is also a gift shop.
Keep in mind that late Spring is VERY busy for the zoo with field trips from area schools. You may arrive in the morning to find the parking lot completely full. I would suggest arriving at the zoo a little later during that time of year- as most of the schools are back on the road by early afternoon.
Parking is FREE which I also love.
My almost two year old LOVES EPZ- you really can't go wrong!
The best thing about this zoo is it's easily do-able in an afternoon. Nice way to break up the day if you're looking for a fun activity for the smaller kids in your life. Take them here during the week for something new and fun. They'll love the variety of animals to see, the playground, the birds, etc and you'll like the fact that it's close, easy to park and a nice place to see animals up close. Also: There are coupons for this zoo if you have an Entertainment Coupon Book or a KidStuff Coupon Book, which always helps! :) Enjoy!
My girls and I did this zoo as an event with www.BuxmontMommies.com. We had a lot of fun and the girls very much enjoyed the animals. It isn't exactly a mind blowing zoo, but it was good enough. I am sure we will be going back in the near future. I would recommend going during the day on a weekday so you dont' have to fight the crowds.
It's a great one day trip getaway .Also a great zoo for little ones, not to big. They also have a great playground there and places for picnics too. I think they ask a little too much for the price and it can get pretty crowded with the camps and schools who visit too. Also some of the animals and the cages they are in are pretty sad looking too especially the mountain lions.
This is a really nice zoo if you don't want to drive into Philadelphia. They have a nice variety of animals and it is very nicely laid out. They have a barn where kids can pet and feed animals. They also offer pony rides (for an extra fee) Military also gets unlimited free admission with valid military ID.
If you aren't up for a trip to the huge Philadelphia zoo, but your kids really want to go to the zoo, the Elmwood Park zoo is definitely worth the trip. It is a smaller zoo, but the animals are very well taken care of and are in natural settings. Best of all, you can see all of the animals in one day!
Enter the aviary and you are surrounded by a naturalistic wetland environment filled with waterfowl, beaver, and two fun-loving river otters. The murky Bayou Building houses alligators, snakes, and armadillos. The Tom Kimmel Conservation Kingdom is an imaginative playground that teaches kids about conservation while they have fun. They can even crawl through a giant prairie dog tunnel at William’s Prairie Dog Town. In all there are more than 200 animals representing forty species, including jaguars, cougars, timber wolves, and a peregrine falcon.
The youngest children still love feeding the ducks in the duck pond and petting the sheep and goats in the Petting Barn (open seasonally). There is also a snack shop, a gift shop, and pony rides. Wheelchair accessible, with diapering facilities in the restrooms.
