We went here years ago when Pirates of the Carribean first came out. We were all adults and loved the ushers being dressed in character, and right before the movie started, an old-fashioned organ rose up from below the stage and a zombie pirates was playing it. So much fun. We will go there again!
If you have small children - this is a must-do, especially if they are playing a movie the kids want to see. They have different packages - our favorite package includes popcorn and a drink, a pre-movie live show, and a special attraction related to the movie in the back of the theatre. The El Capitan Theatre is a hollywood icon so definitely experience it.
The El Capitan Theatre is lots of fun. Esp when the movies are available in 3D. It's a special way to enjoy cartoons with your kids. They usually put on a pre-show of Disney characters, and it's fun to watch. My family has seen Chicken Little, Nightmare Before Christmas, Bolt, and Up! here.
The El Capitan is a fun movie theater to take the whole family. They offer booster seats for the kids so they are able to see better and fit on the seats. Also, you can see more than just new movies there. We have seen Mary Poppins there with a special appearance by Mary herself. Attaached is a Disney cafe that will sometimes get guest appearances as well.
If you have the time, you should go see the theater simply because it is an LA icon. Disney owns the theater now and will premier many of its movies there. We have gone to see a couple and the kids have loved it. Along with the movie, you will get to go check out a behind-the-scenes are with sets, costumes, and more. It is like walking through the "special features" part of a DVD.
Disney and Pacific Theaters restored this historic theater in 1989, now on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally built in 1925, it is now where Disney previews all of its movies. The recently restored 4/37 Wurlitzer pipe organ—known as the “Mightiest of the Mighty Wurlitzers”—is just one of the jewels of this architectural masterpiece. It is across the street from Mann’s Chinese Theatre.
While it is more expensive than a typical movie, there is more to the experience than just seeing the movie. We enjoyed seeing the live show that accompanied our movie, and my girls remember seeing that particular movie more than any they've ever seen. If there is a particular Disney film coming out that you know you are going to love, it is worth seeing it at the El Capitan!
