"Beautiful Theater, Fantastic Movie Experience"

The El Capitan is an amazing historic theater in Hollywood.  The interior is beautifully decorated with exquisite old-fashioned theater style.

Depending on the movie showing, a variety of options are available.  For the showing of "Brave", we enjoyed a 20-minute live musical stage show before the movie.  It was so cute!  Live singers, dancers, beautiful sets, and all of Disney's favorite characters like Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, as well as the full lineup of princesses and Pixar characters filled the stage with song and dance.  Everything is done in great Disney quality; the kids were mesmorized and I felt like the trip was a cheaper and shorter visit to Disneyland.

Although the reserved seats come with popcorn & a small drink, we got general admission tickets.  We showed up an hour early and waited 30 minutes to snag the best seats in the theater (we like sitting in the first row of the balcony).

We spent $6.50/kid for their kid's meal (souvineer, hard plastic theme cup, theme toy, popcorn, candy & beverage).  It isn't incredibly cheap, but still less than the $10 VIP ticket that only gets popcorn and drink with no toys or cups to keep.  My girls now own three Merida dolls from Brave, for less than the VIP popcorn price.

In addition, the large popcorn bucket offers free refills!

You can buy your tickets at the door or online.  Don't be swayed by the "fees" on the website.  The prices are exactly the same online as they are in person.

"Great to see a current movie"

We went here years ago when Pirates of the Carribean first came out.  We were all adults and loved the ushers being dressed in character, and right before the movie started, an old-fashioned organ rose up from below the stage and a zombie pirates was playing it.  So much fun.  We will go there again!

"A must-do when in hollywood"

If you have small children - this is a must-do, especially if they are playing a movie the kids want to see.  They have different packages - our favorite package includes popcorn and a drink, a pre-movie live show, and a special attraction related to the movie in the back of the theatre.  The El Capitan Theatre is a hollywood icon so definitely experience it.

"Makes Movies Extra Fun"

The El Capitan Theatre is lots of fun. Esp when the movies are available in 3D. It's a special way to enjoy cartoons with your kids. They usually put on a pre-show of Disney characters, and it's fun to watch. My family has seen Chicken Little, Nightmare Before Christmas, Bolt, and Up! here.

"Show & a movie"

The El Capitan is a fun movie theater to take the whole family.  They offer booster seats for the kids so they are able to see better and fit on the seats.  Also, you can see more than just new movies there.  We have seen Mary Poppins there with a special appearance by Mary herself.  Attaached is a Disney cafe that will sometimes get guest appearances as well.

"Movie and more"

If you have the time, you should go see the theater simply because it is an LA icon.  Disney owns the theater now and will premier many of its movies there.  We have gone to see a couple and the kids have loved it.  Along with the movie, you will get to go check out a behind-the-scenes are with sets, costumes, and more.  It is like walking through the "special features" part of a DVD.

"Fun with the Family"

Disney and Pacific Theaters restored this historic theater in 1989, now on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally built in 1925, it is now where Disney previews all of its movies. The recently restored 4/37 Wurlitzer pipe organ—known as the “Mightiest of the Mighty Wurlitzers”—is just one of the jewels of this architectural masterpiece. It is across the street from Mann’s Chinese Theatre.

"Very fun premiers!"

While it is more expensive than a typical movie, there is more to the experience than just seeing the movie.  We enjoyed seeing the live show that accompanied our movie, and my girls remember seeing that particular movie more than any they've ever seen.  If there is a particular Disney film coming out that you know you are going to love, it is worth seeing it at the El Capitan!
