This is a GORGEOUS beach with all of the amenities. However, this is not free. It costs $15 to park here. The beach is huge and at low tide has amazing sand bars and lots for the kids to find. Also, you can buy lunch, snacks, ice cream and candy here for very little money which makes packing for the beach so much easier. There are showers to wash off at the end of the day as well.
Heading south of Boston during the summer? In their Cape-bound haste, many people miss Duxbury Beach, one of the finest barrier beaches along the Atlantic coast.
This 5-mile-long stretch of sand and beach grass is a favorite of locals. The old fashioned, full-service bathhouse is a great find for car-bound travelers. Spend the day on the beach, then wash the sand and salt water off the kids (and yourselves) before returning to the car. The beach has a good snack bar, lunchroom, and outdoor grill restaurant (on weekend nights).
On your way there, drive or walk across the Powder Point Bridge, the longest wooden bridge on the East Coast. The pedestrian portion of the bridge is wide, allowing room for walkers to pass behind the fishing enthusiasts who gather along the bridge.
