This is an amazing park that really is a great asset to the City of Dubuque! I was shocked to find out that the vast majority of the gardening work and upkeep of the building is completed by volunteers – something that makes the park that much more attractive in my mind! The fish pond is just so beautiful from early spring through late fall, constantly surrounding by flowers of one type or another in bloom! Wedding are frequently held on the grounds, and it’s such a beautiful picture to see a wedding party surround by the beauty of nature with the sounds of classical music in the background! An amazing way to experience nature – a must see attraction for anyone passing through Dubuque, Iowa.
Pack a picnic lunch and head to the Dubuque Arboretum for a day of free family fun! They sell Koi food at the gift shop for $1 for plenty (we still have a half full bag after feeding the fish 5 times!) There are lots of areas to walk and check out the gardens, but the highlight is definitely the large Koi pond. Be sure to bring your camera, as there are gorgeous photo opportunities. In fact, if you're looking for a place to get outdoor photos done in Northeast Iowa, this is it! They also have a great playground. During the summer there are outdoor concerts. And did I mention...it's all free!
