The national award-winning Douglas County Museum is operated by volunteers (with a part-time paid director). The museum features short-term exhibits about a wide range of topics pertinent to the history of Douglas County and East Central Illinois. Throughout the year, the museum staff also offers a wide range of special events and programs. Browse our website for more details.
This small museum emphasizes local history through its changing exhibits. For example, one recent display featured old photographs and antique cameras, another was a collection of toys spanning the 20th century. The exhibit Every Day Should Be Veterans Day featured World War II memorabilia. Because many of the glass display cases contain books and papers, young visitors will find it more interesting if they are able to read.
