Fort Wilderness provides one of those authentic Disney experiences with a degree of removal from the hustle and bustle of the Disney World complex. There are many special shows and seasonal events that occur inside the forested grounds of Fort Wilderness, like Mickey's Backyard BBQ.  It's a great place to be close to the Disney action without paying the resort prices.

"So much to do!"

We love coming here! There is a lot to do: bike riding, canoeing, swimming, as well as playgrounds and structured activites for the children. Renting a golf-cart is beneficial if you go during a crowded time, as buses fill up quickly. The Hoop-de-doo Review is a great time as well, and there is a "general" store where you can buy pretty much anything you need (although at Disney prices).

"Wilderness Rocks"

We have stayed several times at the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.  For wilderness lovers who have families, the log cabins are the perfect place to stay at Disney.

Here are some things to note:
It is definitely beneficial to rent the golf cart to get around...It is much more convenient than waiting for a busing throughout the resort area, which may or may not be crowded.  It also allows you the opportunity to really explore the grounds.  There are tons of fun activities at the resort and a nice beach area too.

The downside to staying at this resort is there are limited possibilities as far as restaurants/food/shops...if you need quick and 24-hour access to food/drinks, this is not a good choice.  The upside is the cabins have kitchen/fridge/microwave/stove/oven, so you can stock up before arriving and save money over park prices!

"Great on a budget!"

This was one of the first places my family stayed at Disney when I was a kid. We drove down and hooked up our RV, I hear its still very affordable. The feel of the area is very laid back and that's what i truly enjoyed about it.  Also if you stay there you MUST go to the Hoop-de-doo review! Yummy food and entertainment!

"Great option to escape crowds and noise!"

If you are looking to stay on Disney property, but want to get away from the business and crowds that you will encounter ALL DAY LONG while in the theme parks, this is a great option to consider for your overnight arrangements.  The cabins are really in a secluded setting and not set up to resemble hotel style accommodations at all.  Each cabin comes fully equipped with a kitchen and all necessary cooking/eating utensils and supplies.  The cabin we stayed in had a large deck with a BBQ and was surrounded by lots of wilderness.  Further, you can still have the convenience of maid service if you request it.  Consider this option if you want to be able to unwind at the end of your day and escape the traditional hotel experience.

"Peace and quiet in the middle of Disney World"

We have camped in a RV and also stayed in one of their great family sized cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort. We have enjoyed our experiences there, the fun campfire activities and wonderful BBQ dinners. There is something special about being able to shake the "theme park" feel and unwind.  The cabins were fully equipped with everything we needed to prepare our meals. Be prepared for the longish walk to the Disney transportation buses, but enjoy the nice atmosphere and enjoyable experience.

"Take the Kids on a Camping Adventure"

Disney's Fort Wilderness has campsites and even Cabins that you can book for your Disney World vacation.  The campsites make for a very inexpensive Disney World vacation, if you are looking to save some money!

This resort has more activities for the family than any other Disney World Resort.  Some of my favorite activities include archery, canoes, hayride, stables, Hoop Dee Doo Dinner Show, trail rides, and Chip & Dale Campfire Singalong.  There are so many activities right at the resort, you may not want to even hit the Disney Theme Parks.

Pull out those tents and head to Disney's Fort Wilderness for some family camping and fun!

"Cabins and room to stretch out"

We stayed in a cabin at Fort Wilderness when we last went to Disney. Although the resort is large in size, you certainly do not get a hotel feel. The cabins are interspersed among campsites, but you feel you are in your own home. Each cabin has a full kitchen stocked with basic cooking and eating utensils. There is also a deck and an outdoor grill and patio. These came in very handy to get our kids out of the way in the morning while we got ready for the day or at dinner to burn off some steam looking for lizards before bedtime. These is an internal bus system in the resort to get you to all of the attractions in the fort, or you can rent a golf cart which was the highlight of our kids stay and very convenient to get to the boat launch for the Magic Kingdom. Other attractions here include the famous Hoop Dee Doo review, Mickeys Backyard BBQ, a petting zoo, a grocer and Chip and Dales' Marshmallow roast singalong as well as pools and playgrounds. There is a large bedroom with a queen bed and two bunks, a bathroom and a separate living room near the kitchen also with a TV and a pull down Murphy Bed. It was Perfect for our family of 5 plus Grammy. We also ordered groceries on line from Garden Grocer. They were in our room when we arrived from the airport along with water so we were ready to GO!!!!
