Dinosaur National Monument is home to some of the largest land creatures. The park is sprawled across Colorado and Utah. While the main exhibit wall of dinosaur fossils is closed right now, some fossils can be seen by hiking ½ mile from the Temporary Visitor Center located near Jensen Utah. You can also view rock art and captivating scenery, explore homestead sites, and go whitewater rafting in the area.
We visited the Utah side of the park. The park was not crowded at all. We greatly enjoyed driving out to Josie's Cabin and then taking a short high up in Box Canyon. We were disappointed to not get to see the visitor's center -- it was still closed as of June 2011.
We actually live in Vernal, but visit here often. If you love being outdoors than this is the place for you. We love to do the hikes and visit Josie's Cabin. There are a lot of kid friendly hikes. The petroglyphs are amazing. We are very excited that the new Visitors Center is set to open this fall.
This is a great place for dinosaur lovers! The wall of fossils is amazing. It's enclosed, which is nice. The park is quite a drive from "civilization" and there are very few good motels nearby. We loved visiting the fish hatchery on the north side of the park, and hiking in that area. There are some great petroglyphs. The shuttle busses in the park are nice. If you happen along when the Mormon crickets are swarming, it's great fun! There is some gorgeous scenery in and around the park!
