Right on the bluffs of Shell Beach, the Dinosaur Caves Park offers wide open space for the kiddos to play. My 3 year old loves climbing the cement structures and playing in the sand with her sand toys. The views of the water are amazing and well worth a visit. We love Del's Pizzeria nearby and makes for a lovely afternoon. The only drawback is that the park does not have any play structures such as swings or slides but it makes for a unique park experience.
This park really is just beautiful as it is right on the bluffs in Shell Beach. The park itself could use much more equipment as they only have a few swings, dinosaurs to climb onto and a few dinosaur eggs that the kids enjoy climbing into. It would be great to see them put a climbing gym or something neat like that. I love that the park is surrounded by grass, rather than a parking lot so you feel much safer with your kid running around!
This is such a nice park! It overlooks the beach, has a good-sized playground for the kids, plenty of parking, and even hosts the Art in the Park event once a month! There is a bathroom, but it is very tiny and made for one person. It can also get pretty cold during the foggy season, so make sure you bundle up if you go during that time. There is also a cute little gazebo, and an area where you can go down the stairs to the beach; just be careful about going during high tide... my husband and I got drenched!!! But it's never crowded, and theres a good restaurant right next door called Del's Pizzaria that has awesome food!
We stopped here on a trip from Ventura County to Monterey County. It is easy access from the freeway and had clean bathrooms. It was a great place to let the kids stretch their legs for a few minutes -- much better than a rest area. Plus, it has some beautiful scenic overlooks and some great photo op spots.
This will be our normal stopping place from now on when traveling the coast.
They now have art in the Park Weekends and a Farmers Market too. We have also seen Bands playing on the weekend and it was nice. make sure you read about the history of the park...there was a dinosaur that lives there. Check out Pismo Parks and recreation website
This park is happily situated over the ocean in Pismo Beach. It's views are breathtaking and the playground is a dinosaur theme, which makes for a fun different take on a park. Their are egg's the kids can crawl through and dinosaurs too. The playground is fun and while the kids are playing, you can take in the views of the ocean and great smelling sea air. :)
