Scenic drive along the precarious cliffs along the California Coastline between Pacifica, CA and Montara, CA. Drive so close the edge of the cliff it will make you shudder. Spectacular views with picture perfect moments at ever turn except that you can't pull over easily. Devil's slide will only be accessible to cars for a few more years because a tunnel is being built to replace this old historic road.
A drive well worth taking for adults, but you'd be nuts to let the kids out of the car. Cliff rescues happen on a regular basis. It's a spectacular stretch of highway, but there are better places to enjoy the view: drive carefully and stop at Pigeon Point Lighthouse, further down Hwy 1, instead.
This drive hugs some of the most treacherous but stunning sections of Pacific Coast Hwy. There isn't anything special about the drive for kids, but the views make this drive a must see if you are in the area. Whenever we have friends visit, we always take them on this drive because it is so rare to be able to drive on a road that hugs the steep cliffs so tightly offering panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean's grandeur. There is a beach half-way between Pacifica and Montara that is a great place to hang out, but the walk down is steep and could be challenging with kids.
