Track tours are conducted 9:30 am to 5:00 pm daily when there’s no racing. Daytona USA is open 9:00 am to 7:00 pm daily.
My first visit to Daytona was the 500 in 2009. I won tickets to the Rolex 24 in 2010 and took my husband for his first exciting Daytona experience. My niece works there and says it's a great place to work as well. My sister came all the way from New Jersey to attend the Daytona 500. My young niece and nephew came along and thoroughly enjoyed all the attractions and sites. I would recommend this speedway to tourists and residents, especially if you have children.
I am not a NASCAR fan or a car enthusiast. My 3 year old son, however, is both. So we made sure that we took the time to go to Daytona International Speedway while on our family vacation in Florida. Grandpa was with us on the trip, and they had so much fun together. My son was fascinated by the race cars, relating everything to the NASCAR picture book he was given or to Pixar's Cars movie. He didn't particularly enjoy the racing simulator that he rode with his dad, but he survived without crying. The gift shop is filled with anything NASCAR that you can imagine, but thankfully we were able to get away with one small die cast car. The non-fans in your group (such as myself) will probably be bored long before hardcore fans are ready to leave, but they might also find just enough to interest them to keep them going to the end.
I've been to two hot July races, wear a hat or sun glasses. Drink lots of water to stay refreshed. Get there early for parking! The races are exciting no matter where you're seated! Section names/numbers seem easy enough for navigating to the restrooms and back to your seat.
Each March, thousands flock here for the energy and excitement of Daytona 500 NASCAR stock-car racing. Other major Speedweek events include the Pepsi 400 NASCAR race in July, the Rolex 24 sports-car race in February, and the Daytona 200 for motorcycles in March. Year-round, you can travel backward by race car via a video wall showing early racing films, then take the thirty-minute narrated Speedway tour by tram. A highlight is a stop on the rim road behind turn four for a heightened overview of the grounds. Opened in July 1996, Daytona USA further traces the history and hysteria of motor sports with interactive displays that allow visitors to assist at a pit stop, broadcast a race, design and test a stock car, and talk to their favorite drivers through video. Famous race cars, such as actor Paul Newman’s Ford Mustang Cobra and each year’s Daytona 500 winner, are on display. From a 55-foot theater screen, a film about the Daytona 500 race brings you as close to being there as you can get without fighting traffic. Buy your race-car souvenirs at the gift shop or at any one of several motor sports shops in the area.
