Entertaining show about some of Skagway's most famous characters from the '98 Gold Rush days. Can-Can dancers and though the subject matter can be a little risque, it's a family show because it's done so well.
We had a blast here. I must first admit that my son thought the girls in the show were "ballerinas" -- as they slung a leg out of the 2nd story window and called out to passersby to come enjoy the show, he'd wave in delight. It has been a few weeks since we saw the show and he will still say randomly, "I miss the ballerinas!" He may not remember Soapy, but the girls doing the can-can won his heart!
The show itself should be the first thing you take in while in Skagway. If you are planning to take in the Gold Rush cemetery and many of the area highlights that stem from historical elements then you should primer those experiences with this one. It's a great overview and introduction of the city and its' rich history. You will have a much better appreciation of the cemetery for sure, having gone to this show first.
It is about an hour long in duration, and ladies and gentlemen, watch out, there are a few sections where you might just get picked for a little audience participation.
If our three year old was entertained the whole time, you will be too! The performers audition in New York and there is a lot of talent on the stage! There is a mix of singing, dancing, and clowning around as well as the short dialogue in between that keep it moving. The hour or so flies by and is an enjoyable time.
We learned a lot while being entertained and later were able to better enjoy other sites. Even my husband was pleased with the experience and he's much more of a "doer" than a "seer!"
Bottom line: You will have a laugh and your kids will enjoy the fast-paced energetic atmosphere. Older kids will see a part of history come alive and the whole family will gain a bit of insight as to what it was like during the Gold Rush era. This one should be at the top of your list for visiting Skagway!
Disclosure: We received complimentary passes to this show. Our opinions are honest and our own. Thank you!
