The Currituck Beach Lighthouse and Museum Shop is open between the week before Easter through Thanksgiving. During periods of high winds or storms the lighthouse tower may be closed to climbers. Admission to the grounds and parking are free. There is a fee to climb the tower for everyone 8 years of age and older. Children 7 years and younger are admitted free with a climbing adult. Cash, checks and domestic Traveler's Checks are accepted forms of payment. The Lighthouse does not take credit cards. The Museum Shop accepts cash, checks and credit cards for their merchandise only and not for climbing the lighthouse. Lighthouse construction predates modern building codes and safety regulations, so visitors are required to sign a liability waiver prior to climbing. Children 12 and younger may climb only if accompanied by an adult. Parents or guardians must sign a waiver for unaccompanied children ages 13 through 17.
Open until 8pm on Thursdays during the Summer. ( They also close during lightning and high wind conditions)
The Corolla area is one of the narrowest points on the barrier islands. Bordered on the west by Currituck Sound and the Atlantic Ocean on the east, sand frequently blows onto the highway from the dunes that line it here and at other narrow points on the island. Highway 12 ends at the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, a redbrick tower built in 1875. It is open for climbing.
