"educational and fun"

this is a great place to visit.  we visited on a Friday afternoon and it was not that busy.  you are able to take a guided tour of the cave and the tour guides are very informative.  it was so neat to see the different rock formations.  our daughter loved it and loved trying to see if she could see the different things the formations were name after.

after the tour we visited the gift shop and bought a couple bags of dirt, sand, rocks and gems and headed out to the sluicing tanks to see if we could discover a gem or two!  i don't think that our finds will make us rich but we had a lot of fun!

everything was reasonably priced. even the little snack shack wasn't bad.  they were super busy though!

"An underground wonderland"

My daughter and her junior girl scout troop visited Crystal Cave last summer.  It was a very interesting and informative experience both for me and the girls.  They learned things and had fun, too.  After all -- it's a cave!!

We had brought picnic lunches to the site, and enjoyed eating them under the covered picnic area before we went in to the cave.  Then we all went in and took the 45-minute guided tour.  Our guide was well-informed and told us about how the cave was discovered, pointed out interesting crystal formations all over the cave -- on the ceilings, walls and floors.  At one point she even turned out the lights to show the girls just how dark it was back in the days when they discovered the cave.  They squealed in pretend fear!  Things like this made it a realistic and cool experience for the girls.

We trekked all over the cave and imagined what it was like to find something as interesting as this in the middle of Pennsylvania.  We really had a nice time and I remember hearing the girls making up stories about each room in the cave.  Apparently this park is one of the most popular natural areas in the state.  Just remember when you go that it's a cave, so it's cold.  Bring a jacket.  Also, footing is a bit tricky, so wear sneakers or sure-footed sandals and watch the kiddos.

This is a great trip for older kids who can appreciate the learning experience and have a little fun climbing around a cave too.  I would recommend a trip to Crystal Cave if you're anywhere in the area.  Stay at a nearby campground or hotel and visit nearby Cabela's hunting and fishing store for a truly unique natural adventure! Cave in and go!

"Fun with the Family"

Crystal Cave, discovered in 1871, is the oldest operating cave in Pennsylvania. Just use your imagination and you can see the ice-cream cone, the crystal ballroom, the giant’s tooth, and the prairie dogs inside the geological formations here. After your underground adventure, try some of the free activities such as the nature trail, picnic area, and Amish buggy display.
This cave is probably less strenuous than some others, with railings and walkways. No strollers are permitted in the cave, so put the baby in a backpack, if possible.
The Main Inn has a large restroom and lounge but no changing table. Picnic tables are available, some covered. You can eat at the Pennsylvania Dutch Fast Food Restaurant, Sugar Shack, and ice-cream shop, open seasonally. Miniature golf is also available for a fee.
