We took our family to craters of the moon this last year for an extended family reunion. The caves were so fun to go in and the artifacts were amazing. The problem is there is no trees. No trees equalled really high winds for us as well as no place to get away from the heat.
This National Monument has an entire park of lava beds, underground caves to be explored, fantastic paved trails to hike or bike, and tours available. It is out in the middle of nowhere and virtually unknown, which is a shame in my opinion. It is amazing to see, and worth making a bit of a drive to do so.
This is a great place to take the kids to learn and explore. The landscape is so unique and there is lots of room to roam. It's great to get out and learn about other areas and why they are how they are. A good visitor center and good place for family to visit!
