One of my favorite memories as a child: going to the drive in movies with my mom and dad in my pajamas. When I first moved to Minnesota, I was thrilled to learn that they have two drive-in movie theatres a short drive from Minneapolis and St. Paul. The Cottage View Drive-In theatre is located in Cottage Grove, MN. This theatre shows at least two movies a night during the summer. With a very affordable admission price, this is a very cost-effective way for parents to take their kids to the movies, and see two films at a great price. As someone said to me, "the drive-in movie theatre solves so many problems--you can go out on a date with your spouse, allow your kids to stay up late and see two if not three movies that are STILL in theatres." I couldn't have put it better myself.
In order to find out what's playing, you'll just need to call the theatre hotline at: (651) 458-5965 or visit the website. The shows start at dusk, so it is a good idea to have the kids in their pajamas and load the car with blankets and pillows before you go. The theatre relies on your car radio--and does not have those boxes that you put inside your car window to hear the sound. The theatre has flush toilets (although I thought the bathrooms were gross and as I rule, I only use them if I really, really have to) and a concession stand. The concessions are basic popcorn, pizza, candy--but are standard movie fare. At this writing, adults pay $8.00 each and child pays $1.00 each in admission.
In short, going to the movies at Cottage Grove is a fun summer adventure--and in our family it's a summer tradition. Highly recommend!
