Coolidge Park features a beautifully restored 100 year old carousel, a pavilion, an interactive play fountain, the Outdoor Chattanooga Center, and lots of open space. It is a popular destination for concerts, movies-in-the-park, festivals, and special events.
The Coolidge Park Water Feature for kids to play in is fantastic. It's a really clean place for the kids to play. If you're visiting this free park (we did 2 years ago) then bring swim suits for the kids (we didn't 2 years ago). They LOVE playing in the fountain (we remembered suits this time!).
There's seating for adults to watch the kids--there are splashing rings and shooting fountains and plenty of fun on a hot day.
It's free, no admission fee. Bathroom at the nearby pavillion are very clean and well-maintained.
Carousel in adjoining pavillion is one of only 3 wooden in the country, and there are plenty of picnic tables, green space and other activities that you could spend an afternoon in this park and have a blast! Free of charge!!!!
Coolidge Park is a great, cheap way to spend a hot summer day. There is lots of nice green grass for picnicing, lots of walking areas and the best part a carosel and the water fountains. The fountains are great! It is a play area with statues of animals that shoot water and lots of neat water features. The carosel is lots of fun for everyone and for just a dollar a ride, it's a fairly cheap form of entertainment! The carosel is located in a covered pavillion, so it runs rain or shine. The only thing is you have to be dry to ride it. There are lots of neat stores withing walking distance of Coolige Park and the walking bridge to downtown Chattanooga is there as well. We love to walk along the waterfront. It's a great, relaxing way to spend a hot summer day!
Our kids loved coming to this park (ages 2 & 3) just to walk around and see the sights. The only expense for the day was the carousel, which was a must-do. The rest of the day, we just walked around, picnicked, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Great place to come and relax with your family.
We live in Chattanooga and this is one of our favorite summer hang outs. The park is by the river and has a large, grassy lawn. There are also fountains (animal statues) that spray water for the kids to play in. Enjoy a ride on an old fashioned carousel (be aware you must have dry clothes to ride) for about $1. There are restrooms to change clothes. No food on site, but there is usually a vendor selling drinks. A few picnic tables with grills are available. No pets allowed.
Coolidge Park is a beautiful place to fly a kite or have a picnic. You can pick up lunch on Frazier Ave. or River Street (the Deli is awesome) and have a picnic. There is a great old carousel that has been completely refurbished and is in a pavilion (great for rainy or hot weather) with rides for just $1. There are also wonderful stone animal sculptures with fountains in a circle around other fountains that are perfect for kids to play in in the summer. Not many trees or tables, and no play equipment, but still a great place to run around. It's also connected to a riverwalk sidewalk that runs down the river and is close to the Walking Bridge.
This is a lovely, picturesque place and it is next to some cute shops, including Clumpie's Ice Cream and an independent toy store called The Big Much.
The carousel is beautiful, but it goes VERY FAST! Younger kids might get scared like mine did! The first rotation was a decent speed, but after that it started whipping around like a fan blade; I saw my child's expression change to horror. Other kids could probably handle it but maybe not a preschooler.
Coolidge Park is a newer destination for families to visit in Chattanooga. Spend a day frolicking in the water fountains. Bring a picnic lunch and watch the boats pass along the riverbank. Or take a ride on one of America's most unique carousels. Or do them all. With most of the activities being free or almost free, you can afford to!
This is a great place to visit on a sunny day with the family. The park has lots of grassy areas for a picnic while the kids play in the splash pad. There is even a 100 year old carousel that the entire family can ride for a nominal charge. The carousel is enclosed so it can be ridden in all types of weather. Also recommend walking across the Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge for fun!
