Embracing a range of artistic disciplines and media, the Museum’s exhibition program includes contemporary art and historical objects, film and music, conversations, lectures, literary readings, and other live performance. Dynamic and ever-changing, the Contemporary Jewish Museum is a non-collecting institution that partners with national and international cultural institutions to present exhibitions that are both timely and relevant and that represent the highest level of artistic achievement and scholarship. At the heart of our programs is a focus on education and outreach to the broader community with the goal of fostering interfaith and intercultural dialogues.
We really like this museum. I love the downtown location and easy access via public transportation. They have nice exhibitions all the time and there is a nice turnaround. The exhibitions and galleries are small and therefore not overwhelming. I can not remember my children complaining about anything they have seen there. Once, they had an exhibition on Jewish plates and I thought that would be a turn off for my children. They actually loved it. Less is more and I think they always get it right. We loved the Maurice Sendak, Chagall, Andy Warhol exhibitions. Their latest is Curious George saves the Day. Well worth seeing. The CJM team has created a suitcase full of activities to get the children interested in the exhibition and it proves to be a success. My children had a great time exploring the exhibition using the tools provided to them and ended up strolling it on their own, giving me some time to do the same.
