The Connecticut River Greenway State Park extends from the border with Connecticut (Chicopee) to the New Hampshire/Vermont border. The park encompasses six public boat accesses to the Connecticut River, the Mount Sugarloaf Observation Area, the Norwottuck Rail Trail, and public lands acquired to create a public greenway along the Connecticut River. The gentlest portion of the river for kayaking and canoeing is from Turners Falls in Montague south for 15 miles to Hatfield. The Connecticut River was designated one of fourteen American Heritage Rivers in 1998.
