Park History
Nestled within the gates of Congress Park lies the famed Canfield Casino, a historic 1870s gambling casino named a National Historic Landmark. Although no longer used for gambling, Canfield is steeped with beautiful architectural detail and plays host to countless events and weddings. QUICK Fact: Scenes were shot at the Canfield Casino for the 2003 feature film Seabiscuit.
Take a tour of the Saratoga Springs History Museum. Located in the Canfield Casino, visitors can learn more about the prolific history of Saratoga. Explore the Exhibition room, the High Stakes Gambling room, Belter room, Walworth Museum, and the Saratoga Springs History Hall of Fame. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for Seniors and Students. Children under 12 are free. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the museum is open daily from 10am to 4pm. The remainder of the year, the Saratoga Springs History Museum is closed Monday and Tuesday.

"A great place to walk around and take in the views"

Congress Park is a wonderful park to walk around and just relax in.  It has a pond, fountains, and flowers decorating the scene.  When we went it was a warm, sunny day in May, so we took the time to relax and enjoy the view.  My daughter loved following the ducks around as they waddled up and down the paths and on the grass.  I love seeing older buildings, and this place did not disappoint.  There is the old casino which now holds the Saratoga Springs History Museum, but we didn't journey inside.

There is also opportunity to taste the spring water that Saratoga Springs is also known for.  It comes out of it's own spigot, making it easy to try.  The water is a like/hate.  You either like it or you hate it.  But it's always worth trying out!

We'll be heading to the Troy/Albany area this summer to do some research on my family history (we're originally from that area), and we'll be heading on over to the park for some relaxation and letting my kids get another chance to taste the water.  I think we'll check out the museum this time as well.  Can't wait!

"History, Tributes, Relaxation and Fun!"

Chase the ducks, walk through the shaded and serene paths, check out the historical statues that date back to the early 1900's , take a sip off the spring , grab a seat on the lawn or bench in front of the pond, relish in the history of the Casino , take a ride on the historical victorian carousel or better yet .... daydream the day away on a blanket under one of the many trees that line the park.  It's located i the heart of downtown Saratoga and is a great place for activities for the family throughout the year.
