Candlelight Tours of Inn (1 hour): Nov. through mid-Dec. on Saturdays and Sundays from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.
If you want to get a picture of what it was like in a typical roadside inn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, visit the Compass Inn Museum. The log part was built in 1799 and the stone addition in 1820. The Ligonier Valley Historical Society has restored the building, and the kitchen, blacksmith’s shop, and barn have been reconstructed on their original sites. You can find out where terms like “upper crust” and “toasting” came from. You can see how travelers spent the night crammed into beds with other guests. You can visit the family’s quarters, as well as the barn, where old horse- and ox-drawn vehicles still remain and sometimes a blacksmith is on duty, demonstrating the craft. You can also see tools of the period.During summer, living-history days are held on the third weekend of each month. In November and December candlelight tours are offered on weekends only.
