A national holiday that is celebrated all over America, the day marks the date in 1492 when Christopher Columbus arrived in America. The city of Chicago marks the occasion with a parade through the city from Balbo to Monroe. Recently, more and more American communities are trying to take the emphasis away from Columbus and now prefer to celebrate 'Indigenous People's Day' in its place as a way of recognising the many different faiths and ethnicities that make up modern day America.
