The Civic Park in Walnut Creek combines nature and play with gardens, butterfly habitats, and a creek side walk to go along with the always important play structure.
this is such a great park! my kids love it and i love watching them get to play and get all their energy out! Its pretty close by to our house so its hassle free and i feel very safe and comfortable. there are several parks in our neighborhood but this one takes the cake no doubt! Ages range from babies in strollers to 10, 11, and 12 year olds. My kids love the open grass area where they can make up games and just run around with either balls, kites, or just their friends.
We live very close to this park and visit it at least twice a week.
The playground is great for the toddlers and older kids with lots of slides, swings, a cute train, and many other awesome structures. In the summer, I let my child play with the water structure in the sand. It's so hard to pull her away from that thing!
Also, there is a new library right next to the park, so we can spend some quiet time there if needed. And there a several coffee shops in a couple blocks.
Overall, it's one of our favorite parks.
this park is very sweet. huge grassy area, great for picnicking. The playground is sweet, they also have a nice sand area for the little ones with water that works occasionally. The have a little train climbing structure too with seats that the children can play inside and there is sand beneath it. Great swing set, for babies as well as the older children.
Sometimes things just are done well in the suburbs. I prefer suburban malls, suburban Starbucks and naturally suburban playgrounds. Like the malls and the Starbucks the playgrounds are often cleaner, bigger and better equipped than their urban counterparts. Civic Park playgrounds has all of the obvious playground amenities plus a few deluxe features: water/sand table and a climb-around-and-in-train. It gets pretty dang hot there in the summer but the water table and the big lawn with plenty of tree cover helps. Great fun for our 20 month old. It's right off the Iron Horse trail too so it makes for a fun biking destination.
