I enjoy Churchill Downs alot and while it is mainly for adults there are family events like the Junior Jockey Club that is perfect for children. I believe they hold them on Saturdays only. I would suggest a less busy day during the week to take kids. You will be able to get a better seat so the kids can actually see the horses race. Some free areas even have pretty good views of the horses and the winner's circle that the children will enjoy. The Derby or Oaks is an exciting event not for children in my opinion.
