The Gaylord National Hotels host an annual holiday extravaganza and holiday display. The whole resort is transformed starting in November into a winter wonderland. Decorated with glimmering lights that hang overhead, indoor trees and street lamps twinkling with colorful shiny ornament. It's a scene out of painting. Center to the lovely decorations is the giant glass Christmas tree which stands 60 feet tall overlooking the Potomac River. At the foot of this tree is a mini Polar Express train ride that kids can enjoy for just $2. There is also an outdoor holiday market on American Way, where vendors sell handmade crafts, holiday gifts, specialty foods, and treats. You can also meet Santa, enjoy indoor snowfalls, fountain shows. All this can be enjoyed without spending too much.
The highlight for 2011 is the 15,000-square-foot "Ice" attraction--a unique, interactive indoor wonderland created entirely of ice. This year's theme is the Dreamworks Experience featuring an interactive world of colorful ice sculptures carved entirely from TWO-MILLION pounds of ice. Relive your favorite Dreamworks stories as you stroll through this amazing attraction featuring scenes from your favorite animated movies like Madagascar. Gingy's Gingerbread Decorating is another ginger bread decorating event that families can enjoy together. Or join Fiona as an honoray Ogre at the Shrek, Princess Fiona and friends for a fairytale feast fit for a king. Puss In Boots Quest for the Magic Beans is an interactive scavenger hunt through the indoor gardens of Gaylord National Resort. Tickets are on sale on their website.
On Christmas Eve day, you can catch Santa and his elves waterskiing on the Potomac at 1pm
