For little ones who are on the move, the Children's Museums is a wonderful play-based museum.  Cog City is a series of pipe mazes, levers and a water wall teaching cause and effect.  Discovery Bay allows toddlers to walk through an aquarium.  Global Village  takes kids on an adventure through different countries. Imagination Studio has clay waiting to be molded, and art waiting to be created.  Go Figure! is an area for early literacy. Mountain Forest allows kids to transform themselves into mountain animals.

"Not the place to go alone!"

With 3 kids in different play stages with different interests this would be impossible for me to do alone.  Luckily, I have a great hubby and we basically would split up and meet up through out this large museum.  Nothing was too memorable, except the toddler area, simple place for the wee ones to toddle without being trompled and the "outdoor" area.  A tent to play in and a log to crawl through, sildes in the "rocks".  I thought they would love this part, they were kinda "eh" about it.   The BEST part that both the 5 and 3 year old liked (youngest was just a babe here) was the art area.  GREAT place for creativity.  Overall, not worth the drive or price for us to return.

"Hours of Enjoyment"

The Children's Museum keeps my children busy for hours.  There are so many different sections for them to explore.  They have recently added an outdoor gardening section along with a maze.  The kids get to learn about different cultures, tactile activities and best of all they can touch everything.  The museum is kept very clean making it a plus for parents.  Be prepared to spent the whole day there.

"Seattle Children's Museum with young kids"

This is definitely our favorite of all the children's museums in the area!  It's SO big, with tons of different play areas, so there really is something for everyone at every age.  I love how uncrowded it is (going on a weekday, at least!) and how there's just so much to see!

Tip: Go on a weekday to avoid crowds!  Sometimes you'll have the place almost to yourselves!

Tip: You're allowed to bring food in with you and eat on any of the benches, so you can bring your lunch if you want!  Or you can go right upstairs to the Seattle Center food court if you'd rather buy it there.

"FABULOUS!!"

Our 17 month old son loved this place.  We went on a Monday (Messy Monday according to the website) during early summer.  It was not overly crowded but not empty either.  There was so much for him to look at and do that we never felt like we had to compete with other kids for something to do.

Messy Mondays give kids the chance to do messy projects that you might be less willing to do at home.  We made playdough.  They limited the class to ten kids.  The pacing was for kids a little bit older than our guy so he burned out before we could add color.

Regarless of of what type of kid you have (climber, imaginative, machines, trucks) they have a little section for all of them.  My only regret was that our son was still a little jet lagged and we could only stay for a couple of hours before we had to check out and go home for a nap.  We will definitely go back.

The price also seemed reasonable and there are coupons for half price admission in the Entertainment Guide.

"Five stars for little ones"

We visited here in 2004 with three children ages 4 and under.  We all had a wonderful time.  The displays were absolutely charming and VERY interactive.  Lots of darling photo ops.  Very safe and stroller friendly as well.  Unless it has changed much in five years, this museum is best for children ages 10 and under, although I remember perhaps one or two exhibits that would appeal to older children.  Plan to spend about 1-2 hours here (we spent two).

"Great Museum"

This is a great Children's Museum in a great location- right underneath the Seattle Space Needle!
We've been members of this museum for 15 months now, visiting at least once a week since my son was 11 months old. The museum is huge- ranging from a kid sized-grocery store to a building area, to a craft room to rooms with a glimpse of life in Japan/the Philippines/Africa. The museum also hosts fun traveling exhibits like Curious George and Sesame Street. And it has a separate play area for its littlest visitors (ages 0-3) with a water play area and lots of toddler sized toys.
I would recommend this highly for any family with small kids visiting Seattle, they will love this museum!

"LOVE IT!"

We love the Children's Museum. One of the best we have ever been to. There is something for every age. We have gone once a year(we live in Utah) since my daughter was born and she is now 4.  Her Favorites have been Discovery Bay, Global Village, Mountain Forest and the art studio. If you have children under the age of 10, I would recommend this place. My niece who is 8 enjoyed but but I can see her growing out of it around 10-12 years old.

"Well thought out museum"

Growing up in Seattle I  used to go to the original Children's Museum in Pioneer Square. The new digs in the Seattle Center are a nice upgrade, plus you have all of the other fun things to do there like the huge fountain (great on the rare hot days) and just plain exploring. There are rides too but running around is way more fun. Fun giant bubble makers and the other usual suspects at this toddler-pre schooler museum. Hooray for kids museums.

"Perfect for curious toddlers"

What a terrific place to spend a rainy Saturday morning in Seattle. Most likely, whatever your kid (presuming they're 18 months to 6 years old) is into, there's something for them here. Our 2 year old's faves: driving the bus (he did this about 8 times), riding the bus, riding the subway, trying to work at the taco shop and collect money, doing grocery shopping, and did I mention, driving the bus? There were lots of kids and parents here, but at least when we were there, the parents seemed to manage their kids pretty well, so everyone got a turn and we didn't witness or participate in too much fighting.
