This is probably one of the smaller children's musuems, but it was fine. We weren't there for the children's museum, but to see the local attractions, so we only spent a tiny amount of time there. Only a small amount of time is needed for what is offered. It was clean and fun for the kids to be able to run around in an environment just for them.
The Children's Museum of Winston-Salem (CMWS) was an excellent overall experience. They state that they've added many new exhibits or items in their exhibits, and this is obvious. Exhibits are clean and engaging for children and adults. In the lower section of CMWS, they have the new "Imagination Playground", which is an outstanding new play system that allows kids to build their own playground. Upstairs is a Food Lion grocery store and Krispy Kreme donut shop experience - so much fun. I have 3 children under the age of 10, and each had a fantastic time. They do have an area to eat, and you can bring your own lunch. The only food/drink available is from vending machines. They do have an excellent homeschool discount, but be sure to print out their website homeschool rate, as not all volunteers who work the desk understand their admission policy.
The Children's Museum of Winston-Salem is a very good place for young children. It is big but not too big. It is rarely crowded, so you don't feel like you're going to lose track of your little one. Most of the exhibits have a safe area for small children. And there is the most beautiful fairy-tale woods area that is a great place to let your imagination lead! The one down-side of this museum is that it is a little quiet and a little dimly lit, so if you are a typical sleep-deprived parent, I'd recommend bringing a cup of coffee along! For kids, though, it is tons of fun. From the grocery store, the doughnut shop, the arts and publication area, and the building exhibit, your kids will have a blast!
My husband took my daughter on her first trip to the WInston-Salem Children's Museum and swears that not only will we be back, but we might want to look into an annual membership! She absolutely loved climbing the bean stalk, playing in the "river" and making donuts and shopping in the grocery store- everything is perfectly kid-friendly and she gave it 2 big thumbs up! Granted this experience is only good for a few more years, but hey, we will enjoy it while it lasts and take lots of friends to the Children's Museum in Winston-Salem!
Having this attraction near our home has made it a frequent excursion for us. I thought my daughter would never get bored of this place, but since turning 9 our usual 3-hour visit has dramatically shortened.
As with most of these types of museums aimed at young children, this facility has difficulty keeping the themes fresh. The staff is friendly, the facility and equipment appears clean but after a couple of trips it gets old. I do wish they would lower their price for adults bringing children.
Overall, if you're in the Winston-Salem area and need something for your children (ages 2-8) to burn off some energy it's worth checking out.
Kids of all ages will love this interactive museum. However, it's particularly great for preschoolers. All the exhibits are hands on including the two story beanstalk and the Krispy Kream bakery. Kids can spend the whole day here and not be bored. The museum frequently hosts special events such as Clifford, the Big Dog day. Reasonable priced.
My kids love going to the Children's Museum. They have a giant beanstalk in the center that the kids can climb up to the second floor. There is a section that is made to look like a grocery store with kid size carts that is a highlight of every visit. They most always have crafts going on that are fabulous too. We would highly recommend this place!
My family loved the museum, it had so much to do we spent the entire day there. The admission price is affordable and we will consider becoming a member seeing that my hubbys sister lives in Winston and we visit often. You should go there if you are passing thru! Its a great museum in the small city!
My son liked it but didn't love it. I think he may have been a little young for some of the activities (he's almost 2 1/2). It is pricey for what it is (a few rooms with things to do). We will most likely go back after a few months. I think right now he didn't get the KK assembly like or the lego section.
My daughter loved the Children's Museum, except for the few things she got hurt on. They are a little pricey, especially for children. It would be a good place for kids 3-8, but not younger or older, in my opinion. We will go back, but it won't be an all the time place to visit.
We have always enjoyed going to the children's museum in Winston-Salem. They had a great Krispy Kreme set up with donut making....a nice story telling area and neat climbing staircase. The gift shop has some neat gift options. Unfortunately, I have always felt that the price of admission did not merit what was available when everything was shiny and new. Now as the museum has shown it's wear and tear and things are being closed or not renovated, the price to me is not worth it. But if you have the money, you kids age 5 and less will certainly enjoy it.
