The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry (CML) is Charleston’s first hands-on, interactive learning facility built just for children and their families!
Every summer we vacation outside of Charleston. One day during the week we take a break from the sun and head into Charleston. My girls (3 years and 5 years) love the museum. The interactive grocery store is a hit (and always crowded). There is something for every interest. A castle, water play area, shrimp boat and art area. My youngest loved the toddler area when she was just walking. This is by far the best Children's Museum we have visited by far.
We went here when on vacation in the area as a way ot waste time and intertain the 2 year old on a rainy day. They have an art room, water room, grocery room and more. Surprisingly it was the grocery room that was a huge hit for my 2 year old. My daughter (10 at the time and above the recommended age) still enjoyed it, but it is definitely more geered towards the younger kids. the art room was a tad small, but we didn't really even spend much time there since it was so hard to get my son to leave the other rooms. It definetly would be difficult to really take your time and enjoy if it was very busy because overall it is not a large museum. we had a lot of fun and it was well worth a visit.
We love the Children's Museum because it is all about the kids starting from the moment they walk in through the mini door! There's even a toddler area with comfy chairs for mom to sit and watch and take a rest. We love going towards the end of the day as it's a little less busy near closing time. Last year there were BOGO coupons in the Entertainment Book; maybe there will be for 2010 too.
This is a wonderful afternoon place to meet with a few of your kids friends and play. The layout is great and easy to maneuver even with a large stroller. Parking is easy and convenient and there are lots of great places to grab something to eat after.
We visited the musuem while on vacation in Charleston and it was a perfect activity for my kids, ages 1 and 3. While the museum is on the small side, it was the perfect way to spend an hour or so before lunch. My kids had a great time and my husband and I enjoyed being out of the sun for a bit. I definitely plan to visit again.
What a super fun place this is. I brought my daughter here when she was 1 for the first time and the place was awesome. There are soo many activities to do there that include: shopping, water room, a large fishing boat, a castle, an art room, and soo much more.
I really enjoyed the Children's Museum, the layout wasn't the best you have to do half of the activities then walk thru all the rooms to get to the other ones. My son LOVED the water room and I loved how it taught them how water is cycled. The grocery store room was a hit! The art room was great but we found it to be a bit small.
The Children's Museum of the Lowcountry is a sweet museum right next to the Visitor's Center off of Meeting Street. They have a large pretend shrimp boat for the kids and a pretend grocery store with everything you'd normally find. This was my kids favorite part. They also have a mid-evil castle room with dress-up clothes and the knight's round-table. This museum is definitely more for the younger crowd. I'd say from 2-7. It also is quite small and will not take long at all before you're ready to go home. Yet, all the same, it's a fun experience for the kids.
