It's a must see. I took all of my summer campers to the Houston Children Museum. It was so nice. I am looking forward to taking my students in the fall.
The summer campers were so excited. Every thing was at eye level. The children thought they were in heaven.
Its hard to belive that this place can be FREE on Thursdays. It has a little of everything for all age groups. The cafe is nice and fairly priced. Cute gift shop. Lots of new activites to do each week. My 1 year old, loves the tot spot on the 3rd floor where there are always some peers to roll a ball around with. My 4 year old loves the vet office and gives all the stuffed animals shots and grooming treatments. She also enjoys the kid's diner where the children cook and serve up plastic food. My 7 year old loves the banking system and practices different "jobs" so that he can bring his "payceck" to the kid ATMs and watch his savings grow. The enviroment is so cool even my imagination can get fired up-- I like shopping in the minuture HEB while my children check me out on the register. We all have a great time when we go.
The Houston's Children's Museum has to be the best children's museum we have ever visited. inside the building, children can experience an entire miniature town from shopping at a grocery to working at the local tv station! The kids get cards that they load with earning while working in the town. Venture outside for an enormous water play area (just wear regular clothes as its not a splash pad), playground, and exterior building dedicated to animals. Upstairs in the main building kids can interact with a variety of electronic gadgets, toys, and activities! Plenty of hands on fun!
The Museum has recently undergone an overhaul and added many exhibits. It is a great place if you have a toddler or younger child, the second floor is devoted to this age group. Unfortunately if you have two or more children in different age groups it is difficult or impossible to have everyone in the same area at the same time. Also the signage for which age group is allowed on some of the interactive activities is poorly executed and my 3 year old was disappointed to have me explain to her that she was to young to do some of the activities. We are members and go often. The outdoor water activity is always a favorite in the Houston heat, hopefully they will do something about the lack of shade in the future. Also, there seems to be a lack of involved staff members to assist children and parents as to how some of the exhibits work. But it can be a fun afternoon.
The Children’s Museum of Houston is a fun place, both to be in and to look at. The funky yellow, blue, and pink building, one of the five largest children’s museums in the country, is in the heart of the city’s museum district. Permanent and traveling exhibits focus on science and technology, environment and history, agriculture and archaeology, culture and art. Many of the displays are interactive and hands-on.
This year, the Children's Museum in Houston double it's size so now is twice the fun, with activities for kids from 6 months to 12 years old, this is one stop that will keep you and your kids busy for the whole day, while you're there don't forget to visit the new fitness zone and climb the amazing 3 story structure and go to the "water works" zone and bring an extra change of clothes just in case.
We took our toddling son (22 months) here over the holidays and let's just he was like a little Energizer bunny running from one exhibit to the other. The museum is clean and comfortable (meaning I didn't feel like I had to wash his hands after he touched each exhibit) and for kids of all ages to explore (meaning he wasn't bored with half the museum because it was geared towards older kids). Each exhibit is interactive and designed to encourage learning and discovery at every age. For example, one of the exhibits is based on the whole concept of objects vary in weight and value. For older children, they can experiment and learn that on the scale 3 fish were equivalent to 1 gold coin. For my son, he was just fascinated to slap a fish on one side of the scale, watch it tip, run to the other side and slap another fish there and watch it tip back.
Each of the exhibits were fun for even the adults. My husband especially liked the building area upstairs and was determined to build a little playhouse out of all the wooden slates before we left.
I also loved how the museum showed life in various cultures through the mundane tasks of driving, grocery shopping, and cooking. Would definitely recommend anyone with kids ages 1-8 to come here!
It was fun. The museum was educational and fun for all ages of young children (1-8). I enjoyed watching my two years old grandson touch and try all the different objects in the museum. His favorites were the different “grocery shopping” areas, there were three (one set in Mexico, one in the US, and one to focus on the use of money). He also “driving” the real red Mustang and Volkswagon jalopy with me as a passenger. I don’t know how much he learned, but his curiosity and his spirit told me he was quite interested in this creative, scientific, and cultural environment here. Great place for grandparents to bring their younger grandchildren.
It is a great museum for young couples and grandparents with their loved kids to spend some precious time together. The museum is educational for the kids to explore different aspects of life that is essential to them. It also provides hands-on experience to explore new things. The space arrangement is comfortable for a leisurely tour and participating in activities with the kids. The different cultural lifestyles gives kids exposure to different shopping, eating and work lives from different countries like Mexico and Africa. Overall, it is a worthwhile spot for family with kids to enjoy their day together with meaningful learning and quality family time in an environment the kids identify with and enjoy playing with new things in creative and participative learning ways. Wish you to have a good day enjoying the museum with your kids.
I've been going to the museum since I was a kid. Great for all ages of kids. Exhibits change often! Very clean and great for a rainy or hot day
only $5 for adults and free for kids under 2! lots of fun exhibits, although probably more so for older kids (my boy is under 2). make sure to check out the upstairs where my son really enjoyed the build-it-yourself house. ample parking across the street. good way to spend 1-2 hours.
