The mission of the Koch Family Children’s Museum of Evansville is to spark the curious minds and imaginations of children and their families through dynamic exhibits, programs and activities.

cMoe reopened in Fall 2006 in the renovated former Downtown Central Library building with 18,000 square feet of exhibits. It hosts four main galleries, plus a multimedia theater entitled the ’Freedom Gallery.‘ ’Work Smart‘ focuses on engineering skill development and the freedom to build and create. ’Live Big‘ provides inquiry into our bodies and promotes the freedom to make choices. ’Speak Loud‘ is the arts area, encouraging the freedom of self-expression. ’Quack Factory‘ contains serious water play and large-muscle activities as it promotes the freedom to explore.

"Mediocre at Best."

It's always nice to nurture your kids' brain power by taking them to places that will especially cater to them. Evansville doesn't have much to offer in that category though. We do have the Children's Museum of Evansville or CMoe. Truth be told, our family has always enjoyed going to CMoe. They offer a lot of interesting things for kids to look at and enjoy. However, a recent incident made me terribly disappointed with this place when someone stole a very expensive camera from a friend of mine who was there with her family. And while it might not be the staff's fault, I was shocked to learn that they don't have any security cameras in the building. I believe places like these should invest in security features. While the camera was expensive, it can be replaced. But what if something happens to one of the kids who are in there? With their kinda pricey admission/membership fee, I was hoping they would at least be better equipped for unforeseen incidents.

"The Water Deck and 2nd Floor are amazing!"

Well worth the price of admission, cMoe offers experiences for all ages. While the 1st floor was a bit of a snooze fest for me [my 4yr old interacted with everything], the 2nd floor was one amazing exhibit after another. One wing is dedicated to the human body while the other is all about the Arts - our fav! Age app rooms for the very youngest crawler let onto an amazing percussion room, a nook for doing shadow puppetry, stop-motion animation, face-painting and a stage fit for treading the boards. The 'Duck' rooms are great, 1 up and 1 down, where children transform into architects and engineers while they play with air cannons and water. We did everything twice and plan to go back.

The gift store is minimal and food is limited to what you carry-in, but a great, small-town children's museum!

"Exciting for Toddlers; Boring Beyond That"

As soon as my son could walk, my husband and I joined cMOE (as the museum is called here).  Our son, then one year old, loved the rice-filled sandbox, the large foam construction blocks used to build (and then knock down, of course!) walls in the frame of a house with a working doorbell.  And he loved the water room where he could reach in to a river and retrieve plastic balls or ducks and come home soaked--they do have hand dryers on the wall outside this room and we often held our son up to one of these before deciding we needed to bring a change of clothes.

Over the next year, so until he was two, he loved the music room, where kids can bang drums and clash cymbals and sometimes liked coloring at a crafts table.

By the time he turned two, our son raced through the museum, finishing a visit in about 30 minutes.  Perhaps visiting kids will find everything new and, so, exciting.  But I suspect Evansville's Children's Museum just can't compete with those of big cities.
