Children’s Beach on Nantucket is exactly what you would expect for an aptly named beach. It is a sheltered water area with a nice swathe of beach near a harbor. There are cottages and hotels nearby as well as a large grassy area for picnicking and playing with the requisite picnic tables. There is also a snack bar and seating for any forgotten necessities.
On site are a playground, changing rooms, stage for productions that must take place during the year at the head of the lawn a snack shop and bathrooms.
There are lifeguards on duty at the beach which is relatively calm. The kids had a good time here making fast friends with other children, catching crabs and sea creatures, and building castles in the sand. The playscape and nearby spider web climb around made for diversions that were hard to part with.
The beach is located easily just outside of town. It is easy to walk to from the pier or any number of nearby lodgings.
Children’s Beach on Nantucket Harbor is appropriately named because it’s perfect for very young children. There is no surf. It’s very scenic, and your kids can watch the harbor activity and wave at the steamship passengers as they pass by. It offers a wheelchair-accessible restroom, lifeguards, an excellent snack bar, a playground, a grassy play area, picnic tables, and organized activities for kids. On Thursday and Sunday evenings, band concerts are held in July and August; on Friday evenings there are movies. Children’s Beach is well located and is a short 2 blocks from town.
