Chewacla is hidden gem, that is really not so hidden! Just 4 miles off of I-85, Chewacla is a fantastic place to get in touch with nature on a beautiful day. Our family has only recently fallen in love with Chewacla, but we are absolutely hooked. There are miles of beautiful walking trails for different levels of fitness, a campground, a lake for swimming, canoeing, or paddle boating. There are playgrounds (the playground equipment is pretty dated, not your modern fancy playground equipment) with pavilions and charcoal grills available for bbq's. Our favorite trail is the Trail to the Falls - driving in you wind your way up the road about 1 mile to the back of the park. There is a large parking lot there to park your car and a large open field that is perfect for a picnic. Then you can make your way down the trial that leads to a beautiful water fall and huge river rocks that are fun for climbing. It can be dangerous though, so you must be cautious and decide if your children are adventurous enough to tackle the trail and the rocks. My children are 4 & 8 and they think it is the best place on earth! It is truly a beautiful park, and a great way to spend a beautiful Saturday. Ask for a map when you enter so you can decide which hiking trail is best for you and your family. There are short/easy trails, and there are long/strenuous trails. Take your pick and enjoy the beautiful outdoors!
