Ferry line that takes passengers to and from Catalina Island. Locations in Long Beach, San Pedro, and Dana Point.
The Catalina Express is the most economical and most popular way to get to Catalina. On our recent trip, I felt like I was on an airplane. The seats were familiar, the fold down trays held my drinks and magazines and it felt like we were flying across the water.
Because of the great speed of the Express, I really didn't feel any of the normal rocking back and forth of a normal boat's movement that makes me feel sea-sick. This was a catamaran and it really felt like I was floating up and down across the water. I still wore my sea-bands and I'm sure they helped. I didn't want to be doped out on dramamine during dinner at Catalina.
The best seats on the flyer (unless you upgrade to the upper deck) are at the front of the boat indoors. The seats near the bathroom in the middle (where we first plopped down) vibrated with the very loud noise of the motors. The front was quieter and steady. We did not head out doors because the weather was cool and I knew that the rushing wind would be chilling. The only seats upstairs available to us (we didn't upgrade) were outdoors.
