Carolina Beach is located on the Atlantic Coast of Southeastern North Carolina, 15 miles from the historic city of Wilmington. Our beautiful town is uniquely situated between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. This proximity affords our residents and visitors with many opportunities to enjoy the scenic beauty that makes our town a unique place to live.
We spent a full week on Pleasure Island in a rented condo. It was a fantastic vacation! Besides the beautiful beaches, Carolina Beach has pier and surf fishing, camping, a boardwalk area with rides and attractions, charter boats and party cruises, and so much more!
During the summer months there are special family friendly attractions like Family Night at the boardwalk, outdoor movies at the park, weekly fireworks, and a farmers' market. Don't miss a custom ice cream cone at Squigley's, a fresh hot doughnut at Britt's, and the freshest seafood at Bowman's.
A short drive can take you to the aquarium at Fort Fisher, Fort Fisher historical area, the battleship in Wilmington, and the ferry to historic Southport.
While there are a lot of restaurants and night life activities to keep you busy (and the area crowded), keep in mind that you can avoid this beach on major summer holidays and still find yourself having a great time. Younger kids might have the most fun in May and June, when the temps are not so extreme and the crowds haven't started up yet.
Most importantly, the beach is clean, the waves are kid-friendly, and some areas of Carolina Beach are largely residential, so you can find a great bit of sand to settle down into without feeling claustrophobic.
This beach is wonderful and has a lot of things to do. It is pretty crowded however. We enjoyed our time here but we much prefer the Crystal Coast as the beaches are more private, not many hotels at all, and no night clubs or attractions to distract from the beauty. Carolina Beach has all of those things and if your looking for somewhere with a lot to do besides relaxing on the beach this may be the place for you!
Carolina Beach is just north of Kure Beach on Highway 421. Carolina Beach offers a number of amenities for a fun-filled beach vacation, and it’s about a twenty-minute drive south of Wilmington down Highway 421. It’s full of a variety of natural areas but offers the thrill of water slides and amusement rides, too.
