"This is a wonderful beach for wave watching and serenity!"

Love this beach!  My son and my husband built a sandcastle finally, as Monterey's beaches are not really sandcastle material!  There were lots of people along the shore and it was seaweedy and iceplant-filled, but let me tell you, one of the best places to breathe it in and live in the moment.  Gorgeous ocean portrait, right in front of you.  I love this place and am longing for a visit as we speak!  So close to the shops downtown too, a must see!!

"Nice area for a picnic"

We love going there and eat by the sea, on top of the sand hill. The view is wonderful, it is peaceful, family friendly and my children go up and down the sand hill like there is no tomorrow. After that exercise, they are happy and quiet and ready to explore the rest of the city.

"Beachy-keen fun "

The sand here is so soft and fun for kids. Be sure to bring your sand toys and dress in layers because it can often be cold and windy here. It was about 55 degrees today on the beach, so we were all bundled up in sweaters and jackets.

There's lots of seaweed and some rocks to collect, but if your kids are into seashells, you won't find many if any here. Restrooms are available up near the parking lot.

Come early (before noon) and you'll find plenty of parking in the parking lot. However, Ocean Street gets crowded pretty quickly especially during summer weekends, so be prepared for a slow drive in. There are tons of dogs, so if you or your kids are afraid of dogs, you might not want to come to this particular beach.

There are plenty of eating options in town depending on your eating pleasure. Katie's is pretty popular, but you'll have to wait. We really liked Carmel Belle, a coffee, cheese and charcuterie on Ocean and San Carlos. Delicious sandwiches.

"Fun with the Family"

Fine, soft, white granite and quartz sand makes this a popular place to watch the sunsink into the ocean. A kite-flying contest takes place here in May. A big annual event is the Sand Castle Contest in fall, when architects and amateurs vie for the biggest, best sand structure.
