I'm ashamed to admit just how long I lived in Seattle before I discovered this park- and I'm wishing I'd found it sooner. What a gem! The park is beautiful and has everything you could want- a nice playground with plenty of equipment, picnic tables, shelters, bathrooms, hiking trails and more. And the view of Puget Sound and the mountains in the distance is just breathtaking. All conveniently located fairly close to the city of Seattle.
The upper part has a playground with a big huge fish you slide in. Also has swings and a BBQ/Picnic area and a couple of big toys the kids can climb and play on. There is a bunch of hiking trails that weave all over the park. And last but not least you can walk on this bridge over the train tracks down to the beach to collect shells or just watch the trains go by.
You can find all of these amenities at Carkeek. The view is breathtaking, and there are several lovely, sloping trails to follow that weave through wooded areas. A great playground is adjacent to the grassy field, and kids seem to be there in rain or shine! Easy-to-reserve picnic tables are available as well, and plenty of parking. You can climb a bridge that goes over the train tracks and down onto the beachfront area of Puget Sound for some beachcombing. So much fun!
