"Awesome!"

Had a wonderful time on Captain Mike's tour, we randomly saw the sign headed to Tybee, and decided to stop. Only had to wait a few minutes for the next tour, it was great! We saw lots of dolphins and up close to the Cockspur Island Lighthouse. Great buy!

"Dolphins in the wild"

In early April, we hopped aboard the bright yellow "Dolphin V" boat for an hour long dolphin cruise.  Kids were asked to strap on life jackets while on the dock.  Once on board, the crew gave an informative safety overview before setting sail.  Guests have the choice to sit under the shade canopy towards the middle and rear of the boat or stand towards the front of the boat.  Our group chose to stradle the line so we could do either.  We cruised past shrimp boats and fishermen on the shores on our way out towards the Atlantic Ocean.   At different moments throughout the trip, sea sprayed up from the bow which made the kiddos squeal with delight.  The water was chilly but no one got soaked.

During the trip, the guide gave interesting historical details about Tybee Island, the Tybee and Cockspur Lighthouses, Fort Pulaski and fun facts about the wildlife that call Tybee Island home.  We especially enjoyed learning more about the dolphins.

It took about 15 minutes before we spotted the first group of dolphin.  We were thrilled!  As the dolphin appeared and disappeared under the waves, we scanned the waters for the next glimpse of a fin.  It was fun to hear folks on board call out once they spotted a dolphin and even more fun to be the one to spot a fin first!  My six year old counted 37 different dolphin sightings on our cruise and spotted over 75 birds (mostly pelicans and sea gulls).

I could have stayed out there for hours watching the waves for fins but most folks were ready to return to the docks after about 45 minutes.  The waves were steady but not rough.  I would gladly go back out on a dolphin tour with Captain Mike.

Disclaimer:  We received complimentary tickets for the dolphin tour.  As always, the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
